Devotion is common among Christians, Muslims and Jews with writings about him in all major Religions. Considered the guardian angel of Israel. The feast of the Apparition of Saint Michael commemorates the 6th century appearance of the archangel on Mount Gargano near Manfredonia in southern Italy. Michael requested a church built in his honor at the site. If you find medals or holy cards with 'relics' of Michael, they are probably rock chips from the cave, or pieces of clothe that have touched it. St. Michael the Archangel (Hebrew "Who is like God?"). St. Michael is one of the principal angels; his name was the war-cry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against the enemy and his followers. Four times his name is recorded in Scripture. Following these Scriptural passages, Christian tradition gives to St. Michael four offices: 1. To fight against Satan. 2. To rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy, especially at the hour of death. 3. To be the champion of God's people, the Jews in the Old Law, the Christians in the New Testament; therefore he was the patron of the Church, and of the orders of knights during the Middle Ages. 4. To call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment Saint Barbara is a Patron Saint of beautiful city of SANTA BARBARA in CALIFORNIA. Patron Saint of Artillerymen, Architects, Builders, Firefighters, Miners, Sailors. Barbara was beautiful and intelligent. Her wealthy father kept her like a treasure in a tower, in Heliopolis, Egypt. One time, when her father was out of town, she ventured out of the tower and met some Christians. She immediately embraced the Christian faith. When her father found out about her faith, he beat her and turned her over to the governor of the city to be tortured. Another woman, Juliana saw her faith and took her stand for Christ with Barbara. They were both tortured and killed; Barbara by her own father. The same day, lightning struck her father's house, killing both him and the governor. The legend that her father was struck by lightning caused her, probably, to be regarded by the common people as the patron saint in time of danger from thunder-storms and fire, and later by analogy, as the protector of artillerymen and miners. She was also called upon as intercessor to assure the receiving of the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist at the hour of death. An occurrence of the year 1448 did much to further the spread of the veneration of the saint. A man named Henry Kock was nearly burnt to death in a fire at Gorkum; he called on St. Barbara, to whom he had always shown great devotion. She aided him to escape from the burning house and kept him alive until he could receive the last sacraments. A similar circumstance is related in an addition to the "Legenda aurea". In the Greek and present Roman calendars the feast of St. Barbara falls on 4 December, while the martyrologies on the ninth century, with exception of Rabanus Maurus, place it on 16 December. St. Barbara has often been depicted in art; she is represented standing in a tower with three windows, carrying the palm of a martyr in her hand; often also she holds a chalice and sacramental wafer; sometimes cannon are displayed near her. Troparion (Tone 8) Let us honor holy Barbara, Destroying the snares of the enemy, she escaped from them like a bird with the help of the Cross as a weapon.
